Welcome to NQ Hire Boats crowdsourced bathy data

NQ Hire Boats have become the latest volunteer vessel to contribute valuable citizen science bathymetry (depth) data for the ‘Crowdsourced bathymetry on the Great Barrier Reef’ project.

nqhire csb3D view of bathy data collected by NQ Hire BoatsThey certainly have been busy between Cairns, Port Douglas and Cooktown. In just three months between November 2019 and January 2020, the 6 m long MV Charlie1 has collected about 2800 line km of depth soundings every 2 seconds. The new depth data will be used to revise the 30 m Great Barrier Reef bathymetry grid.
