Abstract

Crowdsourced bathymetry (CSB) is the collection and sharing of depth measurements from vessels, using standard navigation instruments engaged in routine operations.

The International Hydrographic Organisation(IHO) accepts CSB data into the Data Centre for Digital Bathymetry (DCDB) through a network of ‘Trusted Nodes’.

This talk will focus on some of the lessons learned from the “Crowdsourced bathymetry on the Great Barrier Reef” project – a ‘Trusted Node’ since 2018.

The talk concludes with a challenge to the AusSeabed community, to build a network of CSB ‘Trusted Nodes’ around Australia.
