Abstract
Robin Beaman is a marine geologist and ocean mapping scientist based at James Cook University in Cairns, leading efforts to reveal Australia’s vast underwater landscape.
Through ocean mapping, his work enhances understanding of the geological origins and structure of the seafloor, the distribution of marine life, and supports effective management of Australia’s marine jurisdiction.
In this talk, Robin will take you aboard the RV Investigator — part of the CSIRO Marine National Facility and the nation’s largest purpose-built ocean research vessel. He’ll explore its advanced seafloor mapping capabilities and share striking examples from the deep Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea.
Join us to come aboard and discover how world-class ocean research is helping to uncover the secrets of Australia’s underwater world and deliver extraordinary new datasets for science.
